Do expensive towels usually fade in color after just 1 wash and dry?

I washed an expensive "designer" luxury towel and my hubby insist he can see the difference after just 1 wash and dry. I don't! While I know towels "eventually" fade with wash and dry I just don't believe it has happend in the 1 and only wash cycle. Help
